How is Ai Changing Video Production?
The video production landscape is constantly evolving with new technologies being developed each year. Although the constant need for new technology can seem daunting, BW Productions has been able to stay on the edge of video production advancement by investing in new gear and tech as soon as possible.
This feeling of “Keeping up with the Joneses” has been multiplied in past years with the explosion of new Ai technologies being assimilated into all industries. Open AI's Chat GPT came out less than 2 years ago in November 2022 and AI has made exponential growth every since with Statista saying, "The market for artificial intelligence grew beyond 184 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, a considerable jump of nearly 50 billion compared to 2023. This staggering growth is expected to continue with the market racing past 826 billion U.S. dollars in 2030." Ai is creating billions of dollars worth of opportunity each year, but what does it's growth mean for creatives?
Just last summer SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes put Hollywood on hold as creatives battled with studios over multiple issues. These issues included better pay, safer working conditions, and needed restrictions on how studios could use AI. With many worried that AI is going to take over the film industry the future looks hazy for those passionate about authentic story telling. Is there a place for writers and actors in this increasingly AI generated world?
At BW we choose to be optimists, nothing can replace the power of human creativity. AI can be viewed in a negative light as any technological advancement (such as social media), but it also has vast opportunities for increased growth & productivity for all industries, including video production.
Ai Powered Creativity
One of AI's greatest skills at the current moment is creating copy for ads and helping with brainstorming sessions. The possibilities with this are limitless. As always it would be a mistake to ask AI to generate you a blog or email that you then post without editing. AI can be very useful when it comes to brainstorming ideas for blogs or scripts but it will actually hurt your SEO if you simply copy and paste a Chat GPT paragraph onto your website. These large language models can be extremely helpful with brainstorming but they have a very low ceiling and authentic human written copy and blogs will always out perform it.
Here is an optimized prompt you can use to help spark video ideas for your business:
"I run a [type of business] called [business name] and I'm looking to create some engaging video content. My primary goal is to [primary goal, e.g., increase brand awareness]. Here's some additional information to help you generate the best ideas:
- Target Audience: Who am I trying to reach with these videos? (What age or interests do they have?)
- Brand Voice: What's the personality of my brand? (friendly, serious, etc.)
- Budget: What is my approximate budget for video production?
- Call to Action: What action do I want viewers to take after watching the video?
Based on this information, can you suggest some creative video ideas that would resonate with my target audience and help me achieve my goals?"
Simply copy and paste this prompt into your LLM of choice (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Bing, etc.) delete the italics and put your personal information. It's unlikely Ai will give you the perfect idea but it will jumpstart your creative process and get your started down the right path!
AI Powered Special Effects
One of the first ways we've seen AI being integrated into the video production & film industries is with AI powered special effects being added to post-production workflows. For example AI generative fill being added to Photoshop making it easier for editors to select parts of an image to be replaced and even generate a completely new object. Although we have yet to use this tool for a business partners photo/video, our interns had fun learning how to use it and generated this silly cheetah hat where the top of a beanie used to be.
Although this is just a fun example and the rendering of the hat is pretty odd it can give you an idea of what can become possible as this tool continues to improve. AI-powered special effects software holds immense potential. In coming years we may be saying goodbye to meticulous green screen manipulations as AI optimizes workflows for editors and does the grunt work for them. These new tools allow creators to generate realistic effects with minimal effort, empowering them to explore bolder creative visions and push the boundaries of visual storytelling.
AI Powered Video Editing
Traditionally, video production workflows have been burdened by a significant amount of time-consuming, repetitive tasks. These include logging footage, tagging keywords, and generating basic edits. Imagine a future where artificially intelligent editing assistants analyze footage, identify key moments, and even suggest cuts and transitions.
This newfound efficiency would allow editors to dedicate more time to refining the narrative, adding creative flourishes, and ensuring the final product resonates with the target audience. There are already companies like Filmora.wondershare that use an Ai assistant to optimize video editing with a virtual assistant that can make narrative suggestions as well as help with audio and color correction.
Another recent example of this is Riverside.fm which includes features like AI Producer, which can cut all pauses out of a podcast or render audio levels. Although tools like Riverside.fm are very helpful in increasing the speed and ease of editing there is no doubt that a professional editor will be able to create a smoother and higher quality podcast rendering. A tool like Riverside may be a good option for someone just starting out a podcast and is trying to edit it themselves but has no prior experience. Tools like Riverside.fm lower the barrier to entry for many and will make creative tools and projects easier for small business owners to adapt and use in their business.
At BW we pride ourselves in having quick turnaround times for our partners with next business day delivery of photography projects and within 5 business days for our video projects. With AI tools becoming increasingly useful we look forward to the day we can further integrate them into our workflows to save our editors time so they can focus on telling your story in a compelling way.
AI Generated Photo & Video
One of the first things that comes to mind when talking about video production and Ai tools is text to video/photo generation. Tools like Dall-E 2 can create images from text (like the ones we generated for this article). Anyone who has played around with these tools can realize the shortcomings of them, but sometime's the results are surprisingly realistic.
As for text to video the tools are much more limited, Open Ai impressed with it's announcement of plans to release Sora, but nothing has been released so far. As these tools get increasingly better it will be interesting to see how applicable they are for business owners and marketers.
What AI Lacks: Humanity
It's important to acknowledge that AI technology is still under development. While these tools offer significant benefits, they cannot replicate the human touch – the intuition, experience, and authentic storytelling ability that professionals bring to the table.
Here at BW Productions, we view AI as a collaborative partner. We are actively exploring how AI tools can be integrated into our workflows to streamline processes and empower our creative team. We believe that this human-AI collaboration will lead to the production of even more impactful and engaging video content.
